Welcome to AstronomyOptics! My name is Sabin Tiberius Strat. If you like visual astronomy, hiking to places far from light pollution or taking the plane to enjoy the sky of the other hemisphere, we already have three things in common!

The goal of this project is to build telescopes of the largest diameter possible, as lightweight and compact as possible (so they’re accepted as airplane cabin baggage) and with the best optics possible.

The first model of a 200mm f/5 Newtonian telescope that fits within the airplane cabin baggage allowance has seen the light of day (or night) in 2016. 2017 looks like it’s going to be a busy year as well, with an even more lightweight version of the 200mm and a prototype 300mm.

This powerful telescope weighs only 11kg, is easy to assemble and disassemble and can be transported as carry-on luggage on most airlines.
